NDC(Nippon Decimal Classification)

The classification schemes the Library uses to arrange the material on the shelves are designed to group together related topics within the same discipline. As the main classification schemes, the Library has used since its inception in 1960 is the 7th edition of Nippon Decimal Classification.

Since then some major revisions of this scheme have been published which restructed various parts of the classification. In 2002 the Library started using the 9th edition of NDC. Whichever edition is used, the number indicates exactly where the book is on the shelves. However, when browsing along the shelves in the Library will users sometimes see a discontinuity on the numbering between older and newer books within topic or discipline.

Added * numbers of the below classifications contain significant changes between the 7th and 9th editions.
