How to Recommend or Request Books

The Selection of books to purchase and collect with the budget of University Library for Agricultural and Life Sciences is mainly based on the recommendations from the faculty and staff of Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences / Faculty of Agriculture. Requests from students are also welcomed. We always accept your recommendations and requests. Please refer to the following and we’re looking forward to your active application.

NOTE: To suggest a purchase of a journal or database, please access here. To request articles, please submit by ILL.

1 For faculty and staff: recommendation of books

Who can recommend?
Faculty and staff belonging to the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences / Faculty of Agriculture.

What can be selected
Please select your recommendation so that it will be necessary and helpful for research and study at the graduate school and appropriate for collection.
It doesn’t matter if it’s newly published or already published.
Both printed materials and ebooks are considered.
There is no limited for the number of books to recommend.

1. Via an e-mail
In the mail, please mention the foowing subjects: the title, author, publisher, book form (printed material/ebook) .

2. Via MyOPAC Service
Log in to UTokyo OPAC with your UTokyo Account , and MyOPAC page will open. [Can’t log in? Please just speak to a library staff who will be happy to assist you.]
Select “Book Request” on MyOPAC Service.
Fill in the order form and don’t forget to set “Agr.Lib.” as “Location”. Please specify, why you requeset this item in “Comments” section and also what book form (printed or ebook) you prefer. At last, click “Send” button.

Please specify so in the following cases.

On syllabuses?
— If ‘Yes’, please mention the lecture’s name.
NOTE: We generally check all textbooks/reference books for lectures that are listed on the syllabuses and purchase them. But it’s not be in time for the start of the lecture. Once you have decided on textbooks/reference books, please recommend it as soon as possible. Books listed on the syllabus are located in the syllabus corner on the 1st floor.
— If ‘No’ and more than 20,000 yen, please mention the reason of your recommendation. Your recommendation will be passed to the Tosho Sentei Iinkai [Library Materials Selection Committee] for consideration.

After recommendation : How long will it take?
On syllabuses — We will make it available as soon as possible.
Not on syllabuses
Under 20,000 yen — Recommendations will be evaluated and the books will be purchased, based on decisions by the chairman of the Tosho Sentei Iinkai. Once a decision is made, Japanese books will be available within two weeks, foreign books will be available within one month and more.
Over 20,000 yen –- Recommendations will be discussed in the Tosho Sentei Iinkai. We’ll order only the books decided to purchase.
In any cases, you will be informed of the result.

Additional information
To help your selection, we send a catalog of new publications to faculty and staffs approximately once in two months.

2 For students: request of books

Who can request?
Undergraduate students of belonging to the Faculty of Agriculture, graduate and research students belonging to the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

What can be selected
Please select your request so that it will be necessary and helpful for your research and study and appropriate for collection.
It doesn’t matter if it’s newly published or already published.
Both printed materials and ebooks are considered.

How to request
Your requests are always welcomed.

No matter how much the books are, please mention reason of your request. We ask you to request books suitable for public goods that will be used not only by yourself but also by others as a library collection, so please provide a detailed explanatoin about the reason for your request. Your requests will be passed to the Tosho Sentei Iinkai [Library Materials Selection Committee] for consideration.
Good example This book describes the plant cell wall in detail from a broad perspective. In addition to basic matters, many of the latest knowledge is also posted. So it is useful for researchers and suitable as a textbook. If it is stored in the library, it will be useful for many researchers and students.
Bad example In order to use my paper.
