University Library for Agricultural and Life Sciences is one of the Departmental Libraries which consist of the University of Tokyo Library System.
It was established by a donation of the alumni and with the aid of the Rockfeller Foundation in 1965. Former libraries of various departments were then incorporated into one library. The Library holds books and periodicals dealing with agricultural and other natural sciences.
In 1977 the Library was designated by the Ministry of Education as the Central Library for foreign agricultural periodicals, and functions as such by collecting infrequently referred periodicals and providing services to affiliates of other institutions.
Faculty staff, students (graduates and also undergraduates) and public users are all free to use the Library as the Library adopts and open stack system.
